Two years ago, the Office of Financial Aid at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte was asked to award two funds; an institutional grant and a scholarship to more than 2,000 students during a relatively busy processing period. The fund amounts were to be offered based on EFC ranges and a Financial Aid Index assigned by the Undergraduate Admissions office and would have relied on tedious, time-consuming manual work. To automate the awarding, the Office of Financial Aid utilized algorithmic rules to calculate, allocate, and award the two funds. The goal of this presentation is to show how to setup a relatively simple process that uses a combination of awarding rules and algorithmic packaging rules. We will show how to set this up in Banner with code examples for rules, Banner forms that need to be populated, and how we tested.
